Phoenix, a cosmopolitan city in the heart of the desert Southwest looks forward to hosting you as the OR/MS global community comes together to share its latest developments, renew old relationships and make new friends. From the moment you arrive at Sky Harbor, America's Friendliest Airport, you'll experience why Phoenix is known for its customer service. Whether you prefer the arts, dining, history or nature, you'll find plenty of options to experience.
Arizona was originally built on the 5C's – Cotton, Cattle, Copper, Citrus, and Climate. Then along came the start of the information age and the 6th C – (semi)Conductors – was added. With the maturation of the information age we have added the 7th C – Cloud – as our year-round low risk environment and large IT workforce make us an ideal place for data centers and collaborative innovation.
The theme of the meeting, INFORMATICS RISING, blends the growing role of OR/MS techniques for understanding natural and artificial systems and coupling with computing and communication technologies to drive decision making for enriching our personal lives and enhancing our professional activity. Through talks, panels and tutorials, experts from academia, industry and government will present recent developments and opportunities in key thematic areas including healthcare delivery, security, global enterprise, sustainability and education as well as the underlying tools of the profession.
The meeting will take place in the recently expanded Phoenix Convention Center, one of the top convention venues in the United States. Located in the heart of downtown Phoenix, the convention center is surrounded by an entertainment district replete with music and drama theaters, sports arenas, restaurants, museums and hotels. The new light rail connects the downtown with the airport, Tempe and central corridor offering even more convenience and opportunities. The Desert Botanical Gardens, American Indian arts and cultures experience of the Heard Museum, and the Musical Instrument Museum with everything from the piano on which John Lennon composed Imagine to the collections of handmade instruments of indigenous cultures from around the world, are local experiences you won't want to miss. For those willing to venture outside the immediate area, you can take in the breathtaking natural scenery of the red rocks of Sedona and the Grand Canyon, or the artificial architecture of Frank Lloyd Wright's Taliesin West and Paolo Soleri's Arcosanti. So come, engage and be thrilled.
On behalf of the organizing committee, I invite the OR/MS community to join us in Phoenix for an opportunity to learn, inform and enjoy the camaraderie, culture, weather and all the amenities the Valley of the Sun has to offer.
